Home Front

“Home Front” is a fine art project blending portraiture, still life, digital compositing and hand weaving.  Portraits of U.S. military veterans are combined with still life photographs of military action figures to explore an individual’s change of identity caused by military service.  The project is influenced by my seven years in the Army and two combat tours in Iraq.

A still life of a military action figure and a portrait of a U.S. military veteran are digitally composited into a single portrait. Two versions of the image are printed – one in color and the other in black and white. The images are then hand cut into strips and hand woven together to create the final image.

The images are captured with a 4 x 5 Toyo View-C and a Nikon D300S.  The project consists of 16 one-of-a-kind 12.5 x 18.5 inch images printed on Moab Lasal Exhibition Luster presented in 13 x 19 inch black frames.
